Billy Bowlegs Festival in Fort Walton BeachPosted on 05/29/14
If you have recently moved into your Fort Walton Beach real estate purchase and are new to the area, there is an upcoming event you won’t want to miss. An Emerald Coast tradition, the Billy Bowlegs Festival is an event you and your family won’t want to miss.
The Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival, now in its 59th year, is a fun, family-oriented pirate festival that is held the first weekend of every June. Come to downtown Fort Walton Beach to help as we defend our fair city against Billy and his pirates!
It has been the mission of Billy Bowlegs to control the emerald seas of Fort Walton Beach since 1953. But, thanks to the efforts of our locals and those on vacation in Okaloosa Island condos, the pirates have never laid claim to our beaches.
This year’s festival will kick off on June 5, 2014 with the Torchlight Parade. Line up along the streets of Eglin Parkway and watch as Billy and his band parade through the city declaring their quest. You can also collect pirate booty as it is thrown from the ships and floats. On Friday, fireworks light up the sky at The Fort Walton Beach Landing after an afternoon of music, great food and activities. Head back to the landing on Saturday to help fight the pirates as before the festival closes out for another year. We hope to see you during the 2014 Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival!
